America: land of the free and the home of the brave, and recently, the home to a growing waistline.
As for any other country, America is prone to an assortment of problems like immigration, debt, or foreign affairs, but one issue that is rather hard to overlook, quite literally, is the obesity epidemic. This issue has been a major concern to doctors and scientists for decades and in recent years, has even has the American Medical Association recognizing obesity to be a disease Pollack. That is a highly debatable claim because obesity itself is a preventable lifestyle, avoidable and curable to all or at least most of its sufferers. For some of the populaces, obesity is not a choice, rather genetics, but for the majority of the obese population, the extra weight is caused by an unhealthy diet and sluggish lifestyle, and for these certain individuals, through a lot of work and discipline, the return to a healthy lifestyle is not as impossible as it may appear.
It is time for America to tip the scales back in the right direction. The epidemic of obesity seems to have happened over night. Over a period of a few decades individuals in the United States witnessed massive weight gains across the entire nation. Obesity stems from individuals failing to implement personal controls by abstaining from unhealthy foods and ingredients, psychological problems relating to food intake and dependence, as well as failures to remain active and exercise. Current obesity rates around the country average at 30 percent, and have the potential to rise to 50 if serious interventions do not take place.
Individual health issues are not the only thing at stake with this epidemic. Obese individuals have more health problems over their lifespan than individuals who maintain recommended weights, and therefore require more healthcare spending and resources. These demands on the healthcare system cause higher premiums for everyone in an insurance group whether private or government sponsored. Valuable healthcare resources are also used up in the process resulting in a diminished quality of care due to the inability to meet the demand. This paper will show attempted successful and unsuccessful public health interventions at the local and federal level to combat obesity with reliable resources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC , and research from the Department of Health and Human Services DHHS.
Other resources examined come from local and federal programs directly from their sponsored sites. The valuable research in this paper shows empirical evidence that obesity may be significantly diminished by community involvement, greater recognition and awareness, and higher amounts of funding towards public health related programs. You've seen the ominous statistical ones: "Nearly two-thirds of all Americans now overweight, study says. teens sue McDonald's for making them fat. America today is in the middle of a nutritional crisis. Throughout the country, the obesity epidemic has struck every population demographic.
According to recent projections made by the United States Government, That is over half of the population! What exactly is the culprit behind this crisis? How can someone fix this issue? The answers lie in the average American Diet. The diet consumed by Americans is one of, if not the worst diet in terms of saturated fat, trans fats, lack of carbohydrates, over consumption of protein, and overall malnutrition. Recommended Dietary Allowances adopted by nutritionists around the globe and countries such as the United States, Canada, and Australia tell us that the American diet fails to come even close to proper nutritional consumption. However, the problem with the American diet is actually easily fixable if people start making smart, informed choices about their food.
By properly educating the general public about nutrition and health, the obesity epidemic can be controlled and cured, leaving America with happier, healthier citizens. Obesity, the sad condition brought about by the excessive indulgence of food consisting no nutritional value causes painful sights on the streets of our cities, which will soon become the norm of society. Not only does this parasite known as obesity create pity, but it is also linked to nearly the ninety chronic diseases most of which are fatal. I have been informed by a very knowing physician that since the rate of obesity in children and adolescents has almost tripled. Twenty years prior, none of the states had an obesity rate above fifteen percent.

Most recently in current events, it was stated that obesity has now surpassed smoking as the leading cause of preventable death in the United States of America. The smoking epidemic gained a great deal of publicity, leading to protest groups and awareness groups that all aimed to educate Americans about the health hazards associated with smoking; but now that obesity kills more people annually than smoking, it is clear that there is absolutely an obesity epidemic taking place within the United States and that is must be addressed, taken seriously, and combated through further education about health, fitness, and nutrition. It's little wonder that we have an obesity epidemic. Food is everywhere - beaming from roadsides, advertised on television, screaming in bright colors from grocery store shelves, glowing in vending machines down the hall from your cubicle. Obesity may soon overtake tobacco as the number one factor in people's deaths. So, what should we do about this epidemic? Capsules of every vitamin needed to survive that include: Vitamin C, Riboflavin, Iron, Zinc, Potassium, Thiamine, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Lecithin Granules, Taurine, IP6 rice bran extract, Protein, Calcium, Omega-3, and Quercetin. Obesity is defined as a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent of major health issues. Many different state legislatures and school board committees have started to ban vending machines in school grounds. Many individuals like me believe that this is definitely the most improper approach to preventing the obesity epidemic that has plagued the United States over the last twenty years. Obesity has become more and more of a problem because American citizens are executing poor dietary techniques. The next influential factor to obesity is the influence of our biological need and genetics.
These factors play a large part in the obesity epidemic but the key factor to obesity is the fact that Americans are drastically decreasing their urges for physical fitness and health. Data has…. We the people of the United States have a problem in our midst, Obesity. While most recognize the importance to stop it, few can agree on a viable method to fight it. It is a problem, no doubt, but it is a problem that lies within every single american. is a democratic Republic and if it intends to stay that way, government will stay within its boundaries, and out of the personal lives of the citizens who consider themselves free.
Obesity is a major epidemic in America. Fasting would be defined as the abstinence from eating certain or all foods in an effort to rely solely on God for inner strength. The pastor talked about how we as Americans are constantly looking for our next meal. We are always anticipating when and what we are going to eat. We even schedule our entire days around mealtime. Americans are essentially obsessed with food. In an effort to change this aspect of our culture, I have devised a three-part plan. Obesity is a condition of having excess body weight. Today in the USA, 97 million adults are overweight, meaning that 1 out of 3 people we come across in our everyday lives may be obese. However, it is also important to understand that being overweight does not mean one is obese.
Obesity is having too much body weight, as where people may be overweight due to high levels of muscles or water in their body. In recent times, obesity among Americans has almost doubled, causing the USA to have the highest obesity rate. There are many variables that have contributed to this rapid growth such as fast food restaurants becoming increasingly more available and less expensive, automobiles becoming the number one form of transportation rather than walking or riding a bike, and other factors that promote inactivity such as the use of cell phones, email, etc. Although, before obesity rates spiked, fast food was not as unhealthy or cheap, driving an automobile was only possible for a select few, and technology did not exist like it does now.
In order to eliminate such high obesity rates in America I believe we must raise awareness on the damages obesity can have on our well-being. In order to so, there should be a higher emphasis put on healthy living rather than promoting fast food and other habits that are harmful to our health. There are many more solutions to this problem such as raising the price of fast food or making it healthier, but many companies are not willing to make these changes. This is why I believe that it is very important that we make Americans aware of this problem. I would like to research this topic because I find it interesting how in a world as efficient as ours today, we are seeing new issues emerge such as obesity….
America: land of the free and the home of the brave, and recently, the home to a growing waistline. It is time for America to tip the scales back in the right direction. Americans are heavier than ever before and, according to the CDC Center for Disease Control and Prevention approximately million adults in the U. are overweight, 60 million adults are obese, and 9 million adults are morbidly obese. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. It can be caused by many reasons.
One obvious reason is the rise in fast food consumption that companies are so adamant on pushing the public to buy, especially children. With fast food chains creating more and more ways to entice the American public to eat their food, it is becoming harder and harder to stay in shape these days. The fast life of America is quickly taking its toll on the public with the silent enemy called obesity creeping up at an alarming rate. In fact, the rate of it overtaking our lives is so fast; the Surgeon General has called it an "epidemic". Now, the real question is- are fast food restaurants really the culprits at work here? In this essay I intend to compare two very different takes on fast food companies and their ways of making people fat as well as my stand on the matter.
