The dance program has two different companies called Meredith Dance Theatre and Meredith Jazz and Tap Company. On Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th, I got the pleasure of stage managing for the modern dance company at Meredith, MDT. As a stage manager, it allows me to see the show every night, but also attend rehearsals and techs in preparation for the show. As a stage manager I am in charge of calling all the cues for the. that I have chosen to identify with is the Franklin and Marshall Dance Company. The company is comprised of over 50 dancers and is supervised by three authoritative professors. Each fall, new choreographers are recruited by the company to each their choreographies, or reconstruction works of other choreographers, in the Fall Dance Concert.
Each spring, the students have the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for the Spring Dance Concert. These student choreographed pieces either presented in. Before this class, I had never seen a Beginning Lindy and Swing. The show provided an interesting interpretation of famous movies and their impact on the audience. Famous dances and themes were portrayed throughout the night, allowing for not only an entertaining experience, but an extremely memorable one. The amount of work put into the show was evident and allowed. The arms and legs were emphasized a lot to show the fluidity of the song. The dancers started off crawling on the floor, but once they were standing there was a decent amount of spinning, and the man picked up and manipulated the woman frequently. For the most part, the song was slow, but at moments the dancers speed up a little to meet the strums of the guitar. The dancers were fluid and flowed together and around each other.
There was a lot of repeated spinning and arm movements. The dancers told a love story between two people without being too obvious. There was a clear short beginning and short end with a clear middle. The dancer fluidly danced from one spot on the stage to another and continued to use the whole stage during the dance. The use of slow movements broke up with quick movements made the dance stand out. For the most part, the music was slow, but at moments the guitar would have a fast few strums before slowing back down.
